Fellow Spotlight: Adriana K. Gomez

Fellowship Type: Carbon Neutrality Fellow for Student Engagement

Campus: UC Merced

Degree Objective: Earth Systems Science B.S. at UC Merced

Project Description: Updating UC Merced’s Climate Action Plan

What impact does your fellowship work have on your campus, your community, the state, or the world? Not only does the Climate Action Plan demonstrate the seriousness with which UC Merced approaches sustainability, but it also gets the topic on people’s minds and finds new creative solutions towards solving our carbon emissions problems.

What is a recent success in your project? Speaking at the Carbon Neutrality Summit in October and being selected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative along with my fellow CNI and GFI partners from UC Merced.

Why are you interested in the Carbon Neutrality Initiative? The Carbon Neutrality Initiative is an incredible opportunity to get every level of UC involvement interested in the future of sustainability in California, and creates a case study that can be used around the world for what is possible when experts put their mind to the same goal.

What do you hope to do in the future using the tools you developed during the fellowship? I hope to continue developing my public speaking skills and learning how to work both independently and collaboratively, as well as improving my project planning skills.
